Container Terminal Mostyska (CTM) plans to resume regular piggyback transportation between Ukraine and Germany on the Mostyska–Forst route. The service is scheduled to launch on July 1, 2025.
This logistics route is the result of a partnership between LION Group, Nunit, and GOL. The project is being implemented as part of a strategy to develop multimodal transportation and expand freight corridors between the European Union and Ukraine.
“Piggyback transportation is an effective addition to our terminal’s existing logistics infrastructure. It creates new opportunities for Ukrainian businesses and increases the predictability of cargo flows,” said Dmytro Kobzar, Director General of CTM.
The route will be served weekly by a train that will run twice a week between the Mostyska and Forst terminals. One hundred semi-trailers will be involved in the transportation as part of three logistics cycles: loading — transit — unloading. The average transit time is approximately 20 hours, including crossing the state border.
“We intend to develop piggyback transportation to the European Union because we understand that the market needs it,” added Dmytro Kobzar.
The key advantages of piggyback transportation are reduced delivery times, increased delivery regularity, economic benefits for shippers and consignees, and, most importantly, reduced CO₂ emissions, thanks to the use of road transport only for the first and last mile.
The Mostyska–Forst piggyback route opens up additional opportunities for the delivery of a wide range of cargoes, contributing to the growth of Ukraine’s export and import potential.
